Meet The Supporters of FishBase and SeaLifeBase
Perhaps John F. Kennedy said it best: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.”
The best way to show our appreciation towards our supporters and friends is to continue being the vessel of information on marine life and ensuring that data are freely available to the public.
Without their tireless support, FishBase and SeaLifeBase wouldn’t be the leading global platforms that stand on centuries of knowledge and deliver up-to-date information on all marine life.
Making information available for people to use was the most important anchor point. Because accessibility to information came knowledge. And it is only with knowledge that leads to understanding of data and, potentially, sustainable management of sea life. Ultimately, mutual exchange of data and expertise came to fruition. Fisheries impacts have been realized. Crucial and informed advocacies have been fought.
If not for our supporters, creating a treasure trove of knowledge in the form of these global databases and strengthening both in time wouldn’t be possible — let alone making far-reaching contributions on protecting and preserving sea life.
What would be better than to hear from our supporters themselves?
